After extensive discussions with Kingston City Council, and The Cheltenham Junior Football Club (CJFC), our application to play at the le Page Park facilities in Cheltenham has been agreed to by the CJFC and Kingston Council will finalise formal approvals in the new year. Now that we have a secured home base, we are in the process of confirming coaches and playing lists for the 2023 season.
Le Page Park, brings us back to our birthplace in the Mentone/Cheltenham area and has two full size ovals, change room facilities and clubrooms, - an excellent destination for the OMFC Panthers to base its future. We will be co-tenants with the Cheltenham Junior Football Club, (CJFC Panthers) who play their games on a Sunday, so a great use of the facilities over the weekends.
Furthermore our new headquarters being located in an area closer to the school from which the club began back in 1968, brings new opportunities for recent MGS school leavers, as well as many other young people in the area to be part of a club which promotes a great social environment for players, family members and supporters alike.
This new arrangement brings a lot of positives to both OMFC and CJFC, who are also known as the Panthers. This arrangement adds another pathway for junior players after they finish their junior football careers, this is especially true for the CJFC girls U18 team, who are currently coached by our own Jess Hamill.
The move from our historical home at Keysborough was predicated by the continued rapid growth of the school who needed more access to the playing fields for their school teams, both boys and girls. But this move brings our home back to the heartland of our football community and is seen as a real positive by many who are living in the area.
We are also looking for players for the 2023 season, both male and female. Like many other clubs, our list declined during and post covid, so we are looking to current and past players to re-join the Panthers for 2023, but equally are looking for new blood from the local area.
We look forward to taking up our new home at the end of the Cricket Season, and working with the CJFC to make le Page a great home for both Panthers !
